Kathmandu— Nepal’s government revenue experienced a notable surge in the first month of the current fiscal year 2083-84 BS (2026-27), reaching over Rs 93.43 billion. This figure represents an approximately 10 percent, or Rs 8.24 billion, increase compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year, according to data from the Financial Comptroller General Office. The rise is attributed to increased tax and non-tax revenue, alongside foreign grant assistance received during mid-July to mid-August.
Revenue Breakdown
Tax revenue accounted for Rs 85.19 billion of the total income, while non-tax revenue contributed Rs 7.3 billion. The government also received Rs 240.3 million in foreign grant assistance during the month. These combined sources propelled the overall revenue increase despite a substantial annual target.
Fiscal Year Targets and Spending
The Nepali government has set an ambitious income target of Rs 1642 billion for the current fiscal year, with a total budget allocation of Rs 2124.34 billion. In the first month alone, expenditures reached Rs 41.88 billion, representing 1.97 percent of the total allocated budget. Current expenditure accounted for the majority of this spending at Rs 21.40 billion, or 1.68 percent of allocations.
Capital and Fiscal Management
Capital expenditure in the first month was relatively low, comprising just 0.31 percent of the total capital allocation of Rs 431.01 billion. Spending under fiscal management reached Rs 19.15 billion, which represents 4.53 percent of the total annual allocation for that category.
The initial revenue figures suggest a positive start to the fiscal year, though sustained performance will be crucial to meeting the government’s ambitious income target.
