Kathmandu— Recent heavy rains have caused landslides and flooding, blocking key roadways and prompting authorities to halt vehicular movement during night hours in several parts of Nepal. As of 10:30 this morning, reports from the Police Headquarters indicate disruptions in Kavrepalanchok, Sindhupalchok, Rasuwa, Rukum West, Sankhuwasabha, Lamjung, Ilam, Nuwakot and Makawanpur districts due to these weather-related incidents.
Road Closures Reported Nationwide
Multiple road sections across Nepal have been rendered impassable by landslides and flooding. The Khurkot–Nepalthok–Katunje Besi road in Kavrepalanchok is closed to all vehicles between 6pm and 4am due to flood risk, while the Kanti Lokpath in Makawanpur has a similar nighttime closure from 5pm to 5am. In Nuwakot, restrictions are in place on the Tokha–Chhahare road section for most of the night, barring essential services.
Significant Highway Disruptions
Several major highways have experienced complete blockages. The Mechi Highway is blocked at Rajduwali in Ilam due to mud deposition, though an alternative route exists. Further east, a landslide and subsequent road washout on the Araniko Highway in Sindhupalchok near Kodari has completely halted traffic. Similarly, a section of the Trishuli–Mailung–Syafrubensi road was washed away by the Trishuli River in Rasuwa.
Regional Impacts and Alternative Routes
The Bheri Corridor’s Jajarkot–Dolpa road is blocked by a landslide near Rijekar Ghat in Western Rukum. In Sankhuwasabha, 10 meters of the Khandbari–Kimathanka road has subsided at Sirek Danda, while a landslide has completely blocked the Besisahar–Manang road in Lamjung. Authorities are advising travelers to exercise caution and utilize alternative routes where available.
The Police Headquarters continues to monitor conditions and urges careful travel due to the ongoing risk of landslides and flooding across affected areas.
