Kathmandu— Nepal’s Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives, Federal Affairs and General Administration, Pratibha Rawal, has identified the resolution of land-related problems as a top priority for the current government. Speaking in Dhangadhi Sub-metropolitan City, Kailali district on Tuesday, she called upon local level governments to actively support efforts to address these issues, particularly concerning unorganized settlers and landless families. The government is prepared to offer facilitation, coordination, resources, and personnel to expedite the process of distributing land titles across the country, with a target timeframe of 600 days.

Government Commitment to Land Titling

Minister Rawal affirmed the government’s full preparedness to facilitate and coordinate the distribution of land titles. This initiative is specifically aimed at addressing the needs of unorganized settlers and landless families who currently lack formal ownership documentation. She urged Dhangadhi Sub-metropolitan City officials to prioritize both land issue resolution and broader development activities within their jurisdiction.

The minister shared that the government is actively working towards a 600-day timeline for distributing land titles, emphasizing the urgency of resolving these long-standing issues.

Local Collaboration Essential

During a meeting of the Land Problem Resolution Committee in Kailali, Rawal stressed the importance of collaborative efforts between the central government and local municipalities. She requested that the committee facilitate problem resolution across all municipalities within the district.

Hiralal Regmi, chairperson of the Land Problem Resolution Committee and Chief District Officer, indicated that discussions centered on preparations for the imminent distribution of land ownership certificates in Kailali.

The Land Problem Resolution Committee is preparing to begin distributing land ownership certificates soon in Kailali, with ongoing government support.
