Kathmandu— Chinese President Xi Jinping met with King Abdullah II of Jordan in Beijing on Monday to discuss the ongoing conflict between Palestine and Israel, outlining four key principles he believes are essential for resolving the Palestinian question. The meeting addressed the critical need for a political settlement based on the two-state solution, self-governance for Palestinians, upholding humanitarian principles, and ensuring fairness and justice in any lasting resolution. Xi emphasized that addressing this issue is central to achieving broader stability in the Middle East.

Two-State Solution Remains Key

Xi Jinping reiterated China’s support for a two-state solution as the fundamental path forward for resolving the Palestinian question, urging efforts to restart peace negotiations between Palestine and Israel. He expressed hope that an independent Palestinian state could be established “at an early date,” signaling Beijing's continued commitment to this long-held position.

Palestinian Self-Governance

The Chinese President stressed the importance of adhering to the principle of “Palestinians governing Palestine” in both managing the West Bank and undertaking post-war reconstruction efforts in Gaza. This highlights a focus on empowering Palestinian authorities and ensuring their central role in shaping the future of their territories.

Humanitarian Crisis Demands Action

Xi Jinping called upon the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to take responsibility for protecting civilians, facilitating humanitarian aid delivery, and preventing further humanitarian disasters. He underscored the urgent need to address the immediate suffering of those affected by the conflict.

Fairness and Justice as Core Principles

According to Xi Jinping, a lasting resolution to the Palestinian question requires upholding fairness and justice through adherence to international law. This includes addressing not only the symptoms but also the root causes of the conflict, with practical actions taken to achieve a comprehensive and enduring solution.

The meeting between President Xi and King Abdullah II underscores China’s ongoing diplomatic efforts regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and its commitment to a peaceful resolution based on internationally recognized principles.
