The ministry emphasized the potential for unverified reports, sensitive images, and videos to negatively impact affected communities and hinder ongoing rescue and relief efforts. The appeal comes as authorities work to manage the aftermath of the disaster and provide assistance to those in need.

Call for Responsible Reporting

The Ministry’s statement highlights the importance of verifying information before sharing it, particularly during times of crisis. Officials are concerned that baseless or false reports can create panic and impede effective response efforts. Uday Ranamagar, joint secretary and spokesperson at the Information Ministry, specifically requested reliance on verified data from sources such as the Home Ministry, District Administration Offices, security agencies, and local disaster management committees.

Impact of Distressing Content

Beyond misinformation, the ministry also cautioned against sharing heartrending images and videos of the disaster’s impact. Officials explained that such content can exacerbate the pain and suffering of affected families and their relatives. Magar stated that while social media can be a valuable tool for disseminating factual information, the reposting of disturbing imagery is insensitive and harmful to those already experiencing hardship.
