Kathmandu— The government of Sudurpaschim province in Nepal announced today it will contribute Rs 20 million (approximately $153,000 USD) to support relief and rehabilitation efforts for those affected by the recent Bhotekoshi River floods. The decision was made during a meeting of the provincial council of ministers, with funds designated for deposit into the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund. In addition to financial aid, the province will also dispatch a medical team to provide care for injured and ill individuals in the impacted regions.

Financial Assistance Approved

The Sudurpaschim provincial government formally approved the allocation of Rs 20 million towards flood relief during its council meeting. Spokesperson Prakash Bahadur Rawal confirmed that the funds will be transferred to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund, a central mechanism for coordinating and distributing aid in national emergencies.

The financial contribution aims to support immediate needs such as shelter, food, and medical supplies for those displaced or otherwise impacted by the flooding.

Medical Support Deployed

Recognizing the urgent need for healthcare services in the flood-affected areas, the provincial government has also authorized the deployment of a dedicated medical team. This team will focus on providing treatment to individuals who have sustained injuries or contracted illnesses as a result of the disaster.

The dispatch of medical personnel underscores the province’s commitment to addressing both immediate and long-term health consequences stemming from the flooding.

Commission Appointments Made

Alongside disaster relief measures, the provincial government also announced several key appointments within its policy framework. Gokarna Prakash Bhatta was appointed as the vice-chair of the Provincial Policy and Planning Commission.

Ganga Datta Joshi and Hira Chand were additionally named as members of the same commission, signaling a focus on strengthening provincial planning and development initiatives.

The province continues to assess the full extent of the damage caused by the Bhotekoshi floods and will likely coordinate further assistance based on evolving needs.
