Bhotekoshi River Level Rises Again, Residents Near Banks Urged to Evacuate

ABC NEWS

Kathmandu— Residents living near the banks of the Bhotekoshi River, extending downstream to Muglin on the Trishuli River, were urged to remain vigilant and relocate to safe areas Monday evening as water levels began to rise again. The alert was issued by Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) based on information received from the Rasuwa district police office, which in turn relayed a notice from authorities on the Chinese side.

Alert Triggered by Cross-Border Information

The NDRRMA issued the alert after receiving notification from the Rasuwa district police regarding rising water levels reported by their counterparts in China. This suggests potential upstream conditions are contributing to the increased flow in the Bhotekoshi River, prompting preventative measures downstream.

Affected Areas and Scope of Warning

The warning specifically covers areas along the Bhotekoshi River itself, as well as extending downstream on the Trishuli River up to Muglin. Residents in these locations are advised to remain alert and prepared to evacuate if necessary.

Flood Forecasting Division Involvement

The NDRRMA relayed the alert notice originally issued by Nepal’s Flood Forecasting Division, indicating a coordinated effort between different agencies to monitor river conditions and disseminate timely warnings to at-risk populations.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and will provide further updates as needed.
