Kathmandu— A shooting occurred at the annual Aarauer Rave in Aarau, northern Switzerland, leaving one person killed and five others injured, according to local police reports released Sunday. The incident took place before 3:00 GMT on the sidelines of the event, which drew approximately 3,500 attendees between Saturday afternoon and early Sunday morning. Authorities have launched a large-scale operation to identify the perpetrators and determine the motives behind the shooting, with areas of Aarau cordoned off and increased police presence throughout the region.

Incident Details

Police reported that the search for those responsible is currently underway, but their identities remain unknown. The exact circumstances surrounding the shooting are also still under investigation. Swiss newspaper Blick reported the shots were fired before 3:00 GMT. Police have appealed to the public for any video or photographic evidence related to the incident.

Event and Location

The Aarauer Rave, an annual techno party, attracted around 3,500 people over the course of Saturday and Sunday. The shooting occurred at the racecourse where the event was being held, according to police spokeswoman Vanessa Rumpold, who told Blick that “several shots were fired within a large group of people.” One witness described hearing “bursts of gunfire” to the daily newspaper.

Security Response

Large areas of Aarau have been cordoned off by authorities as part of the ongoing investigation. Police have also increased their presence beyond the town limits as a precautionary measure, indicating heightened security concerns in the surrounding region.

Authorities continue to investigate the shooting and search for the perpetrators, with no further details immediately available.
