Kathmandu— The Association of Former Ambassadors of Nepal (AFNA) issued a statement on Sunday, urging all political parties, civil society, and citizens to focus on rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts following the devastating Bhotekoshi flash flood. The group expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and properties in the affected areas of Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Dhading.

Call for National Unity

AFNA emphasized the need to rise above partisan interests and work together with national unity and solidarity. The statement highlighted that saving lives and protecting the dignity of affected people should be a common objective.

Appreciation for Efforts

The association appreciated the efforts of the Government of Nepal, security forces, local authorities, humanitarian agencies, volunteers, and citizens engaged in search, rescue, relief, and emergency responses. Their dedication and courage were noted with appreciation.

Immediate Priorities

AFNA urged all concerned authorities to prioritize immediate rescue operations for those still stranded, providing emergency shelter, food, drinking water, medicines, and other essential supplies. Special attention was called for children, women, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups.

Comprehensive Assessment

The association also urged the government to undertake a comprehensive assessment of damage and losses and ensure that relief and rehabilitation programs reach affected people promptly, transparently, and equitably. AFNA called on all to contribute to the Prime Minister Natural Calamity Relief Fund.
