Kathmandu— The Asia-Pacific Media Forum is set to open on Saturday in Shenzhen, a city in south China's Guangdong Province. The event, themed 'Building a Path to Shared Prosperity for the Asia-Pacific Community: Media Consensus and Action,' will be one of approximately 300 events hosted by China under the 2026 APEC 'China Year.' Participants are expected to unveil multiple outcomes aimed at fostering regional cooperation.

Pre-Forum Activities

Ahead of the forum, participating guests have been visiting various cities in Guangdong, including Guangzhou, Foshan, Dongguan, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, and Zhongshan. These visits aim to provide a comprehensive understanding of China's economic landscape and its role within the Asia-Pacific region.

Shenzhen's Economic Role

As one of China's first special economic zones, Shenzhen has transformed into a global hub for innovation and advanced manufacturing over four decades. In the first half of 2026, Shenzhen's trade with other APEC economies surged by 33 percent to 1.98 trillion yuan (about 292 billion U.S. dollars), representing 68.8 percent of its total foreign trade.

Upcoming Events in China

The 2026 APEC 'China Year' will see the hosting of approximately 300 events across multiple Chinese cities, culminating with the 33rd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting scheduled for November in Shenzhen. This marks China's third time hosting the event after Shanghai in 2001 and Beijing in 2014.
