Kathmandu— A Kyrgyz political scientist has identified the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project as a potential model for multilateral cooperation, emphasizing its role in translating political commitments into economic outcomes and transforming Central Asia's economic geography.

Project as Regional Cooperation Blueprint

The China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, officially launched in December 2024, represents a significant example of how political commitments can lead to tangible economic results, according to Kubanychbek Taabaldiev, a professor at Ala-Too International University in Bishkek.

Taabaldiev stated that the project aligns with the Shanghai Spirit, a cooperation framework based on mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality, consultation, respect for diverse civilizations, and shared development goals. He described it as a practical template for regional cooperation under the China-Central Asia mechanism and a potential model for other Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and Belt and Road countries.

The project is expected to enhance Kyrgyzstan's integration into international trade networks and stimulate economic growth across multiple sectors, including industry, agriculture, and tourism.
