Israeli Police Kill Palestinian in Jerusalem as Army Blocks Aid to Besieged West Bank Village

Kathmandu— Israeli police killed a 33-year-old Palestinian man in Jerusalem on Friday after claiming he attempted to stab an officer, while simultaneously blocking Israeli and Palestinian activists from delivering food and medicine to three families besieged for 28 days in the West Bank village of Qusra by settlers and military forces.

Jerusalem Incident Details

Israeli police opened fire on Ibrahim al-Hendi, a 33-year-old resident of East Jerusalem's Beit Hanina neighborhood, near Damascus Gate on Friday. The Palestinian Wafa news agency reported that al-Hendi was pronounced dead at the scene following the incident. Israeli authorities stated that border guards "neutralized" the man, alleging he was attempting to stab one of them.

Following the shooting, Israeli forces deployed around Damascus Gate and the surrounding area of Jerusalem's Old City, according to Palestinian sources cited by Al Jazeera. The incident occurred amid heightened tensions in the city, with multiple reports of Israeli forces conducting operations in the area.

West Bank Operations and Arrests

Separately, the Israeli army announced arrests of Palestinians in Qabatiya, alleging they were "planning to carry out an attack" against Israelis and security forces. During a 48-hour operation in Nablus, Israeli forces arrested ten additional Palestinians and seized over 30 weapon production machines used to manufacture weapons, according to military statements.

Israeli settlers and soldiers carried out attacks across the occupied West Bank on Friday, including storming the Khirbet al-Hamra community in the northern Jordan Valley and assaulting one resident. In southern Bethlehem, settlers accompanied by soldiers attacked Khalet a-Nahlah, while Israeli forces fired tear gas and concussion grenades at Palestinians attempting to resist the violence.

The situation in Qusra remains critical as the Israeli army continues to block humanitarian access to the besieged families, with no immediate resolution in sight.
