Kathmandu, Nov 15 : The leaders of CPN-UML and CPN (MC), members of the communist alliance, have said that the recent spate of attacks against candidates in various parts of the country has raised a serious question mark over the security arrangement for the coming elections.
Speaking at a joint press conference organised by Press Chautari Nepal and Press Centre Nepal here on Wednesday, they demanded that the government immediately stop such incidents and punish those violating the law. They were also of the view that the two parties would unite following the elections to thereby provide good governance and a democratic system in the country.
CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli argued that such activities were taking place with the motive of postponing the upcoming elections, and reiterated that the alliance among the communist parties was for overall socio-economic transformation of the country, and not targeted against any side.
He also said that the current government, a caretaker one, did not hold the authority to decide on an issue of far-lasting importance as that of the Budhi Gandaki hydropower project. The new government will repeal all such decisions, he warned.
CPN-MC Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ accused the NC leaders and the government ministers of creating a baseless rumour and violating the election code of conduct, frightened over the leftist alliance. “Our parties’ decision to unite is now an asset of the people, and hence cannot be stopped by any side.”
