Deal Parameters Announced

A regional official involved in mediation efforts said that the proposal announced by Trump over the weekend calls for both the U.S. and Iran to return to negotiations and address issues that have hindered previous progress on a deal. The proposal includes reopening the Strait of Hormuz, halting attacks across the region, and ending the naval blockade imposed by the U.S., allowing Tehran to export its oil as part of the tentative ceasefire agreement.

Saudi Concerns Raised

In a phone call with President Trump on Saturday, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman expressed concerns about potential Iranian retaliation. The crown prince sought clarity from Trump regarding any new actions being considered against Iran and was worried that Tehran could respond by attacking the energy infrastructure of Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries.

Israeli Strikes in Gaza

Elsewhere, Israeli strikes on Sunday across Gaza killed at least eight Palestinians, including two children, and wounded over a dozen others. Local health officials reported an increase in the scale of Israeli strikes over recent days. The Israeli military stated that the overnight strikes targeted Hamas military operatives.
