MP Pappu Yadav Claims Assassination Plot During Press Conference Chaos

Kathmandu— On Sunday, chaos broke out at the residence of Indian MP Pappu Yadav in New Delhi when individuals attempted to confront him during a press conference. Yadav, who had portrayed a temple priest wearing saffron robes during a controversial skit in Parliament on Friday, alleged that there was an assassination plot against him involving a bounty.

Incident Details

The incident occurred as Pappu Yadav held a press conference to address the controversy surrounding his role in a satirical skit about donations collected for the Ram Mandir. During the event, individuals allegedly attempted to confront him, leading to a scuffle between them and Yadav's supporters. Yadav claimed that one of the individuals was carrying a knife.

"Babas are saying every day, 'Kill me, burn me down; we will give ₹51 lakh.' We caught him and handed him over to the police," Yadav said, alleging that there was a plot to kill him.

Political Backlash

The skit, which took place on July 31 in Parliament, drew strong criticism from BJP leaders. Party leaders including Bansuri Swaraj and several MLAs filed police complaints in New Delhi, alleging that the performance hurt religious sentiments. A separate FIR has also been registered in Varanasi following a complaint by a religious leader.

Meanwhile, the Bajrang Dal held a protest against Opposition MPs over the demonstration outside Parliament concerning alleged irregularities in Ram Mandir donations.

Amidst growing controversy and multiple complaints over the satirical skit, Yadav has continued to defend his actions, questioning whether raising issues related to protecting Hindu sentiments connected with the temple was wrong.
