Kathmandu— Delhi Police have arrested Sumit Sharma at Tilak Marg Police Station following an alleged knife attack on Independent Member of Parliament (MP) Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav. The incident occurred during a press conference at Pappu Yadav's residence, where Happy Sharma is also accused but his involvement remains under verification.
Police Investigation Underway
According to police sources, Sumit Sharma was highly intoxicated at the time of the incident and has been detained for carrying a knife. The Medico-Legal Case (MLC) report confirms this. Happy Sharma's role in throwing a slipper is being verified by investigators.
The controversy surrounding Pappu Yadav stems from a skit he performed inside Parliament, where he portrayed a temple priest raising allegations of embezzlement related to donations for the Ram Mandir. This performance has drawn strong criticism from BJP leaders and led to police complaints.
MP's Lawyer Accuses Police
Pappu Yadav’s lawyer accused Delhi Police of colluding with the ruling government, alleging that authorities failed to provide adequate security despite prior complaints. The lawyer stated, “This exposes the failure of the Delhi Police and reveals their conspiratorial conduct in collusion with the ruling party.”
Supporters of Pappu Yadav claim they acted quickly to overpower Sumit Sharma when he pulled out a knife, potentially saving his life.
