Akhilesh Yadav Mocks BJP After Bankipur Defeat

Kathmandu— Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Akhilesh Yadav mocked the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) loss in the Bankipur bypoll on Monday, stating that those who arrogantly believed they could manipulate divine will were instead being made to dance to God’s tune. The defeat is seen as a significant blow to BJP dominance in an area it had controlled for decades.

BJP's Humiliation

Akhilesh Yadav, the SP chief, used the occasion to criticize the BJP's arrogance and hubris. He said that those who considered themselves above divine will were being humbled by circumstances. This jab was a direct reference to a recent rally for BJP chief Nitin Nabin where a man dressed as Lord Hanuman had participated.

Yadav argued that the loss in Bankipur was not just about local issues but also reflected widespread discontent among voters over various forms of corruption and malpractice, including vote theft, paper theft, and job theft. He claimed that these actions had led to a betrayal of public trust.

Impact on BJP's Internal Dynamics

Yadav predicted that the defeat would lead to internal strife within the BJP as members demand accountability from their leaders. He pointed out that even those who previously claimed resignations do not happen in the party might now face pressure to step down.

The SP chief also highlighted how leaders denied national-level positions and given state roles instead due to belonging to a specific community would be particularly pleased with the results, seeing it as validation of their long-standing grievances.

Significance for BJP's Future

Akhilesh Yadav asserted that this defeat marked the beginning of significant changes within the BJP. He suggested that even traditionally safe seats would no longer be immune to electoral losses, indicating a broader crisis facing the party.

He emphasized that finding candidates willing to contest elections for the BJP might become increasingly difficult, implying a deeper erosion of support and confidence among potential voters.
