Kathmandu— With the monsoon season bringing relentless rains, nine major highways and roads across various Nepalese districts have been severely affected by landslides and floods. The Nepal Police reported on August 3 that road sections in Kavre, Sindhuli, Makawanpur, Ilam, Sindhupalchowk, Dolakha, Rasuwa, Lalitpur, Taplejung, and Lamjung districts are either completely blocked or restricted to vehicle movement during certain hours.
Road Restrictions in Kavre-Sindhuli
The BP Highway section between Kavre and Sindhuli has been closed from 6:00 pm today until 4:00 am tomorrow to mitigate the risk of flooding. Similarly, vehicle operations on the Kanti Highway in Makawanpur district are banned from 5:00 pm to 5:00 am tomorrow due to similar concerns.
Complete Road Closures
The Ilam Municipality-9 Mechi highway has been entirely closed to traffic because of muddy conditions caused by heavy rainfall. Additionally, the Araniko Highway in Sindhupalchok district and the Lamabagar-Ramechhap road section in Dolakha district are also blocked due to landslides and flooding.
The Pasang Lhyamu road segment in Uttargaya Rural Municipality-5 of Rasuwa is another area where travel has been halted, highlighting the widespread impact of recent weather conditions.
Authorities urge travelers to check road conditions with relevant agencies before proceeding and to take necessary precautions as the rainy season continues.
