Moderate Risk of Flash Floods in Nepal Today

Kathmandu— The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has issued a warning for a moderate risk of flash floods today, with significant rises expected in the water levels of small rivers and streams across 30 districts. The affected areas include Taplejung, Ilam, Jhapa, Dhankuta, Bhojpur, Morang, Sunsari, Sankhuwasabha, Solukhumbu, Udayapur, Dolakha, Sindhupalchok, Kavrepalanchok, Kathmandu Valley, and other districts in the central and western regions of Nepal.

Warning Issued for Multiple Districts

The Department has specifically highlighted a moderate risk of flash floods in small rivers and streams in Taplejung, Ilam, Jhapa, Dhankuta, Bhojpur, Morang, Sunsari, Sankhuwasabha, Solukhumbu, Udayapur, Dolakha, Sindhupalchok, and Kavrepalanchok. Additionally, water levels are expected to rise in small rivers and streams in Kathmandu Valley, Nuwakot, Lamjung, Kaski, Myagdi, Baglung, Banke, Jajarkot, Rukum East, Rukum West, Surkhet, Darchula, Baitadi, Achham, Doti, and surrounding districts. People residing along the riverbanks and in low-lying areas have been urged to remain vigilant and follow updated weather advisories.

Precautions and Monitoring Advised

Department's flood expert Binod Parajuli has emphasized the importance of continuous monitoring by local governments and bodies concerned. He advised them to disseminate timely information to communities and remain prepared for any potential emergencies. 'We urge everyone to stay informed about weather updates and take necessary precautions,' said Parajuli.
