Kathmandu— India strongly condemned the unprovoked attack on an Indian vessel off Yemen's coast, which resulted in the sinking of the 'Faize Noore Oliya'. All 14 crew members, including 13 Indians and one Yemeni national, were rescued by the Yemeni Coast Guard without any casualties. Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal expressed relief over their safe rescue and highlighted the importance of maritime security in the region.

Rescue Operation Details

The Indian mechanised sailing vessel 'Faize Noore Oliya' was hit by a projectile near Yemeni waters, causing it to capsize and sink. The attack occurred approximately 13 nautical miles south of Al Hudaydah. In response, the Yemeni Navy and Coast Guard conducted a joint rescue operation that successfully rescued all crew members. They were then taken to safety at the Port of Mokha where they received medical assistance.

Security Measures and Concerns

Following the incident, Minister Sonowal instructed the Director General Maritime Administration (DGMA) to coordinate with relevant agencies to enhance security measures for Indian seafarers in the region. The attack has heightened concerns over maritime safety in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab Strait, a critical international shipping route connecting the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden and Arabian Sea.
