Kathmandu— At the 15-year celebration of India's International Movement to Unite Nations (IIMUN), RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat outlined five essential traits for visionary leadership. Speaking at the event in Mumbai on Thursday, Bhagwat emphasized that true leadership is centered around selflessness and collective empowerment rather than personal ambition.
Five Leadership Principles
Bhagwat anchored his definition of leadership in a traditional Sanskrit verse: 'Patre tyagi, gune ragi, bhagi parijanaih saha, shastre boddha, rane yoddha.' This translates to five actionable principles for modern leaders. Patre Tyagi (Generosity) means giving generously and supporting deserving individuals; Gune Ragi (Appreciation of Virtues) involves recognizing and fostering good qualities in others; Bhagi Parijanaih Saha (Shared Success) entails sharing all forms of gain equally with the team and community; Shastre Boddha (Knowledge and Wisdom) requires deep knowledge and understanding of one's domain; Rane Yoddha (Courage in Strife) means standing firm and acting courageously when faced with challenges.
Leadership as a Guiding Force
Bhagwat further elaborated that leadership is about guiding people toward intellectual and spiritual illumination while actively creating future leaders. 'Leadership means running teamwork,' he said, emphasizing the importance of leading by example and working from within.
Reservation Policy Discussion
During a question-and-answer session, Bhagwat addressed the ongoing discourse surrounding reservation in education and employment. He cited Dr BR Ambedkar's views on reservation, stating that it should persist as long as systemic social discrimination remains. 'If we honestly follow his advice, then there is no problem,' he said.
