Ukrainian Drone Strikes Hit Residential Buildings in Russia’s Belgorod

ABC NEWS

Kathmandu— A barrage of Ukrainian drones struck residential buildings and administrative sites in Russia's Belgorod region on Sunday, injuring at least 13 people, including two children. The strikes caused significant damage to multiple apartment blocks, a private home, and several vehicles, according to regional officials.

Casualties and Property Damage

Regional governor Aleksandr Shuvayev reported that the large-scale attack targeted both social and commercial sites. Among the injured is a four-year-old boy who was hospitalized with shrapnel wounds to his chest.

In addition to the human casualties, the strikes damaged at least four apartment blocks. The barrage also ignited fires in a private residence and two vehicles, according to reports from the region.

Escalating Cross-Border Strikes

The Belgorod region, which shares a border with Ukraine, has been subject to repeated drone and missile attacks throughout the ongoing conflict. Video footage circulating on Telegram captured the aftermath of the strikes, showing extensive damage to high-rise residential complexes.

In recent months, Ukraine has increased its operations deep within Russian territory. These strikes have targeted energy facilities and warehouses operated by Wildberries, a major Russian e-commerce company, as well as logistics routes intended to supply Crimea.

Geopolitical Tensions and Accusations

Russia has characterized these strikes on civilian infrastructure as acts of terrorism. Russian officials have also accused Western nations that provide drone components to Ukraine of enabling what they describe as indiscriminate attacks on civilians.

The Belgorod region remains a frequent target for drone and missile strikes as the conflict continues.
