Kathmandu— India’s Lok Sabha is scheduled to introduce four significant pieces of legislation on Monday, encompassing reforms to tribunals, mining regulations, cooperative development, and a proposed name change for the state of Kerala. Union ministers are slated to present the Tribunals Reforms Bill, 2026; the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026; the Kerala (Alteration of Name) Bill, 2026; and the National Co-operative Development Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2026. The moves aim to address issues ranging from streamlining judicial processes to modernizing economic regulations and potentially altering state nomenclature.

Legislative Agenda for the Day

The Tribunals Reforms Bill, 2026, will be introduced by Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, with a focus on enhancing the operational efficiency of tribunals and establishing greater transparency in the appointment and terms of service for tribunal members. A key component of this bill is the proposed creation of a National Tribunals Commission.

Alongside the tribunals legislation, the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, will be presented by Union Minister G Kishan Reddy, seeking to amend the existing Act from 1957. This aims to further develop and regulate India’s mining sector.

Kerala Name Change and Cooperative Development

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to introduce two bills: the Kerala (Alteration of Name) Bill, 2026, which proposes a change to the name of the state of Kerala, and the National Co-operative Development Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2026. The latter seeks amendments to the National Co-operative Development Corporation Act, 1962.

The introduction of these bills signals potential shifts in both regional identity and the framework governing cooperative organizations within India.

Committee Reports to be Presented

In addition to the proposed legislation, several parliamentary standing committees will submit reports to the Lok Sabha. The Finance Committee’s submissions will cover topics such as the Competition Commission of India’s role in the digital economy and the performance of the National Statistical Commission, alongside demands for grants for the fiscal year 2026-27.

The Railways Committee will present findings on freight earnings, Dedicated Freight Corridors, and railway ministry grant requests. They are also expected to table a statement detailing government actions taken in response to recommendations concerning rail tunnel and bridge construction and maintenance.

The Lok Sabha is expected to debate and potentially pass these bills in the coming days, pending further parliamentary procedures.
