The Rajya Sabha MP lauded the state government and various political parties for demonstrating unity on issues concerning regional welfare, describing it as a positive development in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape. Haasan expressed his support via social media, highlighting the broad consensus achieved beyond partisan lines.

Resolutions Garner Cross-Party Support

The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly passed resolutions opposing both the NEET examination and the proposed Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill on Tuesday. The DMK, AIADMK, Congress, PMK, DMDK, left parties, and other smaller parties all supported the resolutions against NEET, while State Minister Rajmohan raised concerns about the potential impact of the FCRA amendments on organizations receiving foreign contributions. Notably, the sole BJP MLA staged a walkout during the debate on the NEET resolution.

Concerns Over National Entrance Exam

Tamil Nadu Health Minister K Arunraj moved the resolution seeking the abolition of NEET, arguing that the examination is detrimental to social justice, equality, and states’ rights. The assembly's opposition to NEET reflects long-standing concerns about its impact on access to medical education for students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Foreign Funding Regulations Under Scrutiny

The resolution opposing the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill 2026 urged the Union government to withdraw the proposed legislation in its current form. Concerns were raised regarding potential negative consequences for educational institutions, hospitals, elderly care homes, and other organizations reliant on foreign funding.

Kamal Haasan emphasized the importance of maintaining this unified approach for the continued welfare of Tamil Nadu, signaling a desire for sustained cross-party collaboration on key state issues.
