Kathmandu— Two people were killed and two others critically injured when a landslide struck Botalbara village in Thwang Rural Municipality-5, Rolpa district, on Wednesday night. The disaster occurred after days of torrential rain, causing a house and cowshed to collapse. Local residents and police personnel worked together to rescue the injured individuals and transport them to medical facilities.
The Landslide and Initial Impact
The landslide struck Botalbara village following sustained heavy rainfall that began on Wednesday afternoon. A house and a nearby cowshed were completely buried by the slide, resulting in immediate casualties. Shanti Pun Magar, 18, and Kamal Bahadur Pun Magar, 60, were confirmed dead at the scene.
Rescue Efforts Underway
Following the incident, a joint team comprised of police personnel and local residents initiated rescue operations. They successfully located and extracted Himal Pun Magar, 22, and Sanjya Ghartimagar, 25, from the debris. Both individuals sustained significant injuries and their condition is currently considered critical.
