Kathmandu— King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan will begin a state visit to China on August 18 at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry. The trip, which is scheduled to last until August 24, will include meetings with President Xi, Premier Li Qiang, and Chairman Zhao Leji of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, as well as visits to Shanghai and Shenzhen. This visit aims to strengthen bilateral relations and discuss regional and international issues of mutual concern.

Ninth Visit to China

This upcoming trip marks King Abdullah II’s ninth visit to China since he ascended to the throne, a testament to the longstanding relationship between the two nations. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian announced the details of the visit at a regular press briefing on Monday, highlighting the frequency of engagement between Jordan and China.

Agenda for Discussions

During his stay, King Abdullah II is expected to engage in talks with President Xi Jinping focusing on strengthening bilateral ties and addressing key international and regional issues. The discussions will also cover potential avenues for expanding cooperation across various sectors and fostering greater understanding between the two countries. Meetings are also planned with Premier Li Qiang and Chairman Zhao Leji.

Strengthening Strategic Partnership

China views its relationship with Jordan as a traditional friendship that has seen steady growth in recent years, according to spokesperson Lin Jian. He emphasized that under the strategic guidance of President Xi and King Abdullah II, cooperation between the two countries has expanded across multiple fields, accompanied by increasing cultural and people-to-people exchanges.
