Kathmandu— Vegetables valued at approximately Rs 98.4 million (roughly $773,000 USD) were exported from Nepal through the Kakadbhitta checkpoint over the past year, according to data released by the Plant Quarantine Office, Kakadbhitta. The exports, totaling 6,519 metric tonnes, primarily consisted of cabbage, beans and green chilies and were destined for markets in India, Bangladesh, and the United States.
Export Breakdown By Destination
The majority of the exported produce went to Bangladesh, generating Rs 94.7 million from the sale of 6,201 metric tonnes of cabbage. Smaller quantities of green chilies and tomatoes were also shipped to Bangladesh, yielding revenues of Rs 176,000 and Rs 117,000 respectively. The United States received 260 metric tonnes of beans, contributing Rs 599,000 to Nepal’s export earnings during the fiscal year 2025/26.
Kakadbhitta as a Key Trade Route
The Kakadbhitta checkpoint serves as a significant transit point for agricultural exports from eastern Nepal. The Plant Quarantine Office at Kakadbhitta monitors and facilitates the movement of these goods, ensuring compliance with international standards before they are shipped to destination countries.
These figures highlight the growing potential of Nepal’s agricultural sector in generating export revenue.
