Kathmandu— Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has issued a high alert for communities living near the Bhotekoshi, Trishuli, and Narayani rivers. The warning came after a significant flood entered the Bhotekoshi River from Tibet, prompting concerns about downstream impacts in Rasuwa district and beyond. Residents in six districts – Rasuwa, Dhading, Nuwakot, Gorkha, Chitwan, and Tanahun – are being urged to evacuate to safer locations as authorities prepare for potential search and rescue operations.

Flood Origin and Affected Areas

The NDRRMA reported that a large flood entered the Bhotekoshi River from Tibet, triggering the alert. The authority specifically requested households in riverbank areas of Rasuwa, Dhading, Nuwakot, Gorkha, Chitwan, and Tanahun districts to relocate to safe zones. Residents have been directed to contact toll-free numbers 100, 1234, and 1114 for assistance with search and rescue or other emergency needs.

Road Restrictions Implemented

In response to the rising flood risk, the NDRRMA has requested local authorities restrict vehicle traffic on key roadways. These include the Prithvi Highway, the Galchhi–Nuwakot–Rasuwa–Syafrubesi road, and the Muglin–Narayangadh road. The authority is seeking a complete halt to vehicular movement in these areas to ensure public safety and facilitate potential disaster response efforts.

The NDRRMA continues to monitor the situation closely and coordinate with local levels and administrations to provide assistance and manage relief operations as needed.
