Nepal’s Rastriya Swatantra Party Calls for Evacuations Amid Flood Risk

ABC NEWS

Kathmandu— Nepal's Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is calling on the government to immediately evacuate people living in downstream settlements along rivers, citing a heightened risk of flooding following recent events at Bhotekoshi and Trishuli. The party expressed concern for residents in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Chitwan districts, urging authorities to mobilize disaster management resources based on guidance from the Flood Forecasting Division.

Growing Concerns Over Downstream Flooding

The RSP highlighted the potential for flooding not only in areas immediately surrounding Bhotekoshi but also further downstream, impacting communities in Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts as well as Chitwan. The party believes that proactive relocation of residents from riverbanks and vulnerable low-lying areas to safer, higher ground is crucial to prevent loss of life and property.

The RSP specifically requested that individuals avoid travel along downstream roads unless absolutely necessary until the flood situation stabilizes.

Coordination with Emergency Services

In a press release issued by General-Secretary Bipin Kumar Acharya, the party urged citizens to contact Nepal Police’s toll-free number 100 or emergency line 1234 in case of immediate danger. The RSP has also directed its members to actively participate in rescue efforts and preparedness tasks, coordinating closely with local administration officials.

The RSP continues to monitor the situation and advocate for swift action to protect vulnerable populations from the ongoing flood risk.
