Chinese Premier Li Qiang Visits Xizang After Deadly Mudslide

Kathmandu— Chinese Premier Li Qiang arrived Thursday afternoon in Gyirong Township, southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region, after a massive mudslide impacted the area on Wednesday morning. He was dispatched by General Secretary Xi Jinping and is leading a team of senior officials to supervise rescue operations and visit both those involved in the relief efforts and residents affected by the disaster.

Emergency Response Team Deployed

Premier Li Qiang, who also holds a position on the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, is heading the response team sent to Xizang. The deployment follows instructions from Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, signaling the central government’s focus on managing the aftermath of the mudslide.

Focus on Rescue and Relief

The primary objectives of the visit are to oversee ongoing rescue operations in Gyirong Township and provide support for relief efforts. Premier Li Qiang and his team will also meet with personnel involved in the response, as well as residents who have been impacted by the disaster.

Rescue and relief work is currently underway, with officials focused on providing assistance to those affected by the mudslide.
