Kathmandu— Four employees – Bhakta Bahadur Majhi, Bal Bahadur Majhi, Rajan BK and Sunil Majhi – were successfully rescued from inside the Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project following a challenging operation conducted amidst adverse weather conditions. The rescue was carried out by teams prioritizing the safety of personnel at flood-affected hydropower projects in Nepal’s Nuwakot and Rasuwa districts. Authorities are also preparing for potential rescue efforts at the Trishuli-3 ‘B’ Hydropower Project, while continuing operations at the Upper Trishuli-3 ‘A’ project.

Rescue Operation Details

The Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation confirmed that the four employees were brought out safely. A dedicated helicopter equipped with necessary rescue materials was deployed to aid in the operation, particularly focusing on evacuating personnel stranded at various hydropower projects. Rescue teams have been actively mobilized to relocate employees from the Shanti Bazaar area to safer locations as well.

Ongoing Efforts at Other Projects

Preparations are currently underway for a possible rescue operation at the Trishuli-3 ‘B’ Hydropower Project, though adverse weather conditions continue to pose challenges. A specialized team with essential rescue equipment has also been dispatched to the Upper Trishuli-3 ‘A’ Hydropower Project, anticipating potential needs for personnel trapped within tunnels. The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) is leading these efforts.

NEA Prioritizes Safety and Communication

The NEA has emphasized that the safety and rescue of workers at flood-affected projects are its top priority. They have mobilized resources to assist employees and workers stranded at multiple hydropower sites, particularly in Nuwakot and Rasuwa districts. The NEA also urged the public to remain calm and rely on information released by official authorities during this difficult time.

Rescue and relief operations will continue as needed, according to the Nepal Electricity Authority.
