Kathmandu— Following a flash flood on the Bhotekoshi River, Nepali authorities have rescued 117 foreign tourists who had gone missing, according to the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB). The coordinated effort involved the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, NTB officials, Tourist Police, local administration, trekking companies, guides, and security personnel working to locate those stranded in affected areas. Rescue operations were intensified as authorities worked to verify details of missing persons and provide assistance.

Tourist Nationalities

Of the 117 rescued tourists, a significant majority – 85 – are from India. Sixteen individuals were identified as being from China, while nine hailed from South Korea. The rescue operation also accounted for two citizens each from the United States and Italy, in addition to three people whose nationalities have not yet been disclosed.

Coordinated Rescue Efforts

The Nepal Tourism Board is leading a coordinated response involving multiple agencies to address the situation. Hikmat Singh Ayer, Officiating Chief Executive Officer of NTB, stated that search and rescue operations are ongoing in collaboration with relevant ministries, police forces, and local authorities. Trekking companies and guides on the ground are also actively participating in assisting those affected by the flooding.

NTB is currently working to collect and verify information regarding missing individuals and is providing updates as they become available. To facilitate assistance and gather information, the Nepal Tourism Board has established several contact points for the public: a toll-free number (1234), a hotline (1144), and direct access to tourism police at 9851289445.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation and provide support to those impacted by the Bhotekoshi River flood, with ongoing efforts focused on confirming the status of all missing persons.
