Nepal Flash Floods Claim 579 Lives, Nearly 2,000 Remain Missing

Kathmandu— A flash flood in Nepal’s Bhotekoshi River has resulted in the recovery of 579 bodies as of Friday evening, with a staggering 1,924 people still unaccounted for, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA). The disaster also prompted the rescue of 4,451 individuals stranded in flood-affected areas. Authorities have deployed over 15,000 security personnel to aid in ongoing search and rescue efforts.

Scale of the Disaster

The Bhotekoshi flash flood has caused widespread devastation, claiming the lives of at least 579 people as of Friday evening. The number of missing persons currently stands at 1,924, raising fears that the death toll could rise significantly. Rescuers are working against time to locate survivors and recover bodies from the debris-strewn river basin.

Rescue Operations Underway

Despite challenging conditions, rescue teams have successfully evacuated 4,451 people stranded by the floodwaters. The operation involves a substantial deployment of resources, with 15,431 security personnel actively engaged in search and rescue activities across the affected region.

Search and rescue operations are ongoing as authorities continue to grapple with the aftermath of the devastating floods.
