Milo Yiannopoulos Detained by ICE for Overstaying Visa

Kathmandu— Far-right British political commentator Milo Yiannopoulos has been detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after allegedly overstaying his visa, officials confirmed on Friday. Yiannopoulos was apprehended at Louis Armstrong International Airport in New Orleans, Louisiana, on Thursday, having initially entered the country through New York City in May 2019. ICE issued a final order of removal following his failure to appear at an immigration hearing and he will remain in custody pending deportation.

Details of Detention

According to a spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Yiannopoulos was found to have overstayed his authorized period of stay in the United States. An Immigration Judge issued a final order of removal on July 22nd after he did not attend his scheduled hearing. The department shared what appeared to be a mugshot of Yiannopoulos on social media, alongside a warning that individuals who remain in the country beyond their permitted time will face arrest and deportation without the possibility of return.

Recent Activities and Connections

Reports indicate Yiannopoulos was in New Orleans attending a concert by musician Ye, formerly known as Kanye West. He founded Tarantula, a Los Angeles-based talent management company, which lists controversial figures such as Donald Trump, Ye, Martin Shkreli, and Azealia Banks among its past and present clients. Prior to his detention, Yiannopoulos had been active on X (formerly Twitter), where he was previously banned for inflammatory posts but reinstated after Elon Musk’s acquisition of the platform.

Online records indicate that those seeking information about Yiannopoulos's location should contact the ICE field office in Alexandria, Louisiana. The Department of Homeland Security has not provided further details regarding his deportation timeline.
