Rescuers Intensify Efforts to Reach Those Trapped in Trishuli Hydropower Tunnel

ABC NEWS

Kathmandu— Rescue operations are underway at the Trishuli 'A' hydropower project in Nepal after individuals became trapped within a tunnel. A combined 82-member team comprised of the Nepali Army (62 personnel), Armed Police Force (20 personnel), and Nepal Police (20 personnel) has been working since last night to breach the tunnel entrance, hampered by debris and challenging weather conditions. An Indian rescue team has also arrived in the area and is conducting aerial reconnaissance of Chilime and Langtang to support the operation.

Joint Rescue Operation Underway

A large-scale joint effort involving multiple security forces is focused on accessing the trapped individuals. The 82-member team is actively removing debris and moraine that have accumulated around the tunnel door, attempting to create an entry point. The operation has been complicated by difficult weather conditions in the Trishuli area.

Indian Team Provides Aerial Support

An Indian rescue team arrived on scene and is contributing to the effort through aerial inspection of the surrounding Chilime and Langtang regions. This reconnaissance aims to assess the situation and identify potential strategies for initiating a broader rescue operation.

Efforts to break into the tunnel and reach those trapped are ongoing, with both Nepali and Indian teams working collaboratively.
