US Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll Submits Resignation Amid Tensions

Kathmandu— United States Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll has reportedly submitted his resignation following months of tension with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday that Driscoll had resigned, a claim the White House neither confirmed nor denied. Driscoll was appointed in February 2025 and played a significant role in advancing President Trump’s agenda at the Department of the Army.

Tensions with Defense Secretary

Driscoll's resignation comes amid reported tensions with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. According to Reuters, Driscoll had raised concerns about Army transformation and readiness, which he believed were being obstructed by Hegseth’s actions, including the firing of key generals responsible for these efforts. A US official told Reuters that Hegseth viewed Driscoll as a threat within the bureaucracy and had long sought to remove him.

Driscoll's Contributions

Spokeswoman Anna Kelly highlighted Driscoll’s contributions, stating he was effective in advancing President Trump’s agenda by providing strong leadership during military operations, enhancing readiness and lethality, and assisting with negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. The army declined to comment on the resignation.

Pentagon Leadership Changes

Driscoll is the latest senior official to leave under Hegseth’s tenure at the Pentagon. In April, Army Chief of Staff Randy George was fired, while General Christopher Donahue unexpectedly stepped down in June as commander in Europe and Africa. Hegseth has also removed several other generals and admirals, including the head of the Navy.
