Kathmandu— Following the devastating flash floods that hit the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli river corridors on August 26, an initiative has been launched by Nepal Red Cross Society volunteers in collaboration with UNFPA to distribute dignity kits and provide psychosocial counseling to women and girls affected by the disaster. The effort includes two mobile health units offering essential sexual and reproductive health services.

Health Services Provided

The initiative aims to strengthen emergency obstetric referral, including last-mile transport solutions for isolated communities, as well as GBV prevention and response services. Mental health and psychosocial support are also being provided to address the needs of older persons, adolescent girls, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups.

Distribution Details

UNFPA has shared that 2,000 dignity kits, 400 kishori kits, and 300 tarpaulin sheets have been provided to women and girls staying in various shelters in Nuwakot district. Two health camps were also organized as part of the response efforts.

Future Plans

Nepal Red Cross has informed RSS that it plans to distribute dignity kits to women and girls affected by the floods in Dhading and Rasuwa districts as well, expanding the scope of their relief efforts beyond Nuwakot.
