Prime Minister Balendra Shah described the emotional toll on children in flood-affected areas, noting they were unable to celebrate the festival as usual due to deep pain and shock. Some children, he said, could not comprehend the disaster's sudden impact, with their eyes searching for parents and relatives.

The Prime Minister highlighted that the disaster had ravaged homes and playgrounds, turning familiar places into deserts, while children lost friends and faced grief alongside the nation. He noted that some children only learned of the disaster's severity on the 10th day, underscoring the confusion and trauma experienced by young victims.

Government Response and Relief Efforts

Immediately after the floods, the government prioritized rescuing children, the injured, expectant mothers, new mothers, people with disabilities, and the elderly, with search and rescue operations still ongoing. Shah assured that while temporary holding centers lack comfort, the government is working to provide safe and comfortable housing as soon as possible.

"We create an environment where you can dream your future," the Prime Minister declared, emphasizing the government's commitment to rebuilding and supporting survivors. He also acknowledged the role of climate change in the disaster, stating Nepal has informed the global community about the country's climate-related challenges.

Climate Change and Educational Focus

Shah urged integrating climate change education into school curricula, advocating for lessons on disaster preparedness such as carrying emergency bags, managing small savings, and continuing debates on the issue.

"Disaster causes hardship, pain. So, we need to work with unity, harmony and fraternity," he said, drawing a parallel to Lord Krishna's teachings on remaining calm and united during crises. The Prime Minister called for collective action to build Nepal's future, stressing the importance of climate awareness among youth.

The Prime Minister concluded by urging all citizens to maintain unity and patience in the face of ongoing recovery efforts.
