Kathmandu— The Armed Police Force Nepal has decided to provide Rs 2.5 million to each family of its on-duty staff killed in the recent Bhotekoshi flood, with additional support drawn from relief collected among APF personnel and from its disaster management fund. The decision was taken at an advisory committee meeting chaired by Inspector General Narayan Datta Poudel, and joint spokesperson Shailendra Thapa said the assistance follows existing rules on relief distribution and disaster management, with further measures including loan exemption, free schooling and a memorial.

Relief Package for Deceased Personnel

The APF will provide Rs 2.5 million to each family of on-duty staff killed in the flood. The amount is to be provided in line with existing rules on relief distribution and disaster management fund, with additional assistance generated from relief collected from among APF staff. Families of APF members who had taken loans from the APF Employee Welfare Fund will be exempted from the remaining loan amount. Children of the deceased will be provided schooling up to Grade 10 free of cost at any convenient APF school.

Joint spokesperson Shailendra Thapa shared the information on the decisions. If a dependent of an APF person loses life in the flood disaster, his or her family member will be provided Rs 100 thousand as monetary aid. The APF also said a monument for those APF persons lost in the disaster would be established.

Missing and Survivors

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, 13 APF staff have gone out of contact since the catastrophic flood. Five APF persons who escaped the tragedy will be provided Rs 50,000 as incentive.

Support for Retirees and Damaged Property

Security agencies stated that in case of the death of a retired APF staff or a state of homelessness caused by the disaster, his or her family will get Rs 100 thousand as humanitarian aid. If any retired staff has received injury and house damaged, they will be provided Rs 50,000 as emergency support.

Contribution to National Relief Fund

APF has decided to deposit Rs 155 million to the Prime Minister Natural Disaster Relief Fund. Joint spokesperson Thapa said the amount is collected from among all APF persons, including Inspector General Poudel. APF staff who were stationed at the border outpost and security base of Mailung but managed to escape deaths in the disaster need not contribute to the fund.

The measures outline the force's immediate financial and welfare support for families affected by the Bhotekoshi flood, alongside its contribution to the national relief fund.
