Kathmandu— Pappu Yadav, a Member of Parliament from Purnea, questioned what crime he had committed after an alleged knife attack at his residence on Sunday. His lawyer accused the Delhi Police of failing to provide adequate security despite prior complaints and suggested collusion with the ruling party in abetting the plot against him.
Security Lapse Allegations
Yadav's lawyer told ANI that the police failed to act despite being informed about threats against the MP. He alleged that security personnel deployed for Yadav’s protection were inadequate, with only three or four officers present during a large crowd event. The lawyer emphasized that public tweets offering rewards of Rs 51 lakh for beheading Yadav had been reported and lodged as complaints but no action was taken by the Delhi Police.
Incident Details
During a press conference at Yadav's residence, a scuffle broke out between individuals and his supporters. The MP’s media convenor lost consciousness while dealing with alleged attackers who were later taken away by police. He claimed that the Delhi Police stood by and allowed the beating to happen without intervening.
Supporters recounted how they overpowered an attacker when he pulled out a knife, potentially saving Yadav's life. One supporter said, 'Had we not restrained him at that moment, it is possible that our Pappu-ji might have been finished.'
