Kathmandu— On Sunday, the government talks team led by Minister for Home Affairs Sudan Gurung met with representatives of Hindu Samrat Sena Nepal in Janakpurdham. The meeting resulted in an agreement that incorporates six additional demands into the original 13-point memorandum submitted by the Joint Hindu Front on Saturday. Following the talks, all protest programs were called off.

Government's Commitments

The government committed to releasing individuals arrested during protests and investigating security personnel who opened fire during demonstrations. Those found responsible will face legal action according to the law. Minister Gurung stated that both the earlier 13-point memorandum and the additional six-point proposal submitted on Sunday have been formally received, and necessary procedures will be initiated for implementation.

Details of Demands

The original 13-point memorandum called for legal action against those spreading religious and ethnic hatred through social media, a review of cases against arrested individuals following the Dewanganj incident in Sunsari, treatment for injured protesters, a review of religious commissions, verification of citizenship certificates, and an investigation into the financial sources of religious institutions. Hindu Samrat Sena Nepal Vice-Chair Krishna Sanatani said that the government had expressed a positive response to these demands.
