Kathmandu— Persistent rainfall, landslides, and flooding have disrupted vehicular movement across several major highways in Nepal. As of Sunday morning, the Nepal Police reported that multiple road sections are completely blocked or subject to night-time travel restrictions due to safety concerns.

Travel Restrictions on Major Highways

The BP Highway linking Kavrepalanchok and Sindhuli has seen a complete ban on all types of vehicles from Khurkot–Nepalthok–Katunjebeshi between 6:00 pm Sunday and 4:00 am Monday due to the risk of flooding. Similarly, night-time travel restrictions have been imposed on the Kanti Lokpath between 5:00 pm and 5:00 am as a precautionary measure.

In Ilam Municipality-9, the Mechi Highway has been completely closed after continuous rainfall turned the road muddy and unsafe for vehicles. The Araniko Highway in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality, Sindhupalchok, is also fully blocked following landslides at Zero Kilo and Kodari.

Impact of Flooding and Landslides

In Tamakoshi Rural Municipality-5 of Dolakha, the Lamosanghu–Ramechhap Road has been closed after part of the roadway was eroded by the Samakoshi River at Kirnetar. The Pasang Lhamu Highway in Uttargaya Rural Municipality-5, Rasuwa, is completely obstructed due to a section being washed away by the Trishuli River.

In Dharchhe Rural Municipality-3 of Gorkha, a landslide at Anderdanda has blocked the Larke–Benighat earthen road. Nepal Police have urged the public to check the latest road conditions with relevant authorities before travelling and to exercise caution as the risk of landslides, flooding, and road erosion remains high during the monsoon season.
