Kathmandu— During a special session of Nepal's National Assembly (NA), lawmakers emphasized the importance of maintaining social harmony amid economic challenges. They called on the government to tackle issues such as job scarcity for youth, human trafficking, and caste-based discrimination, urging officials to prioritize these pressing concerns.

Addressing Job Scarcity

Lawmakers highlighted the urgent need to provide employment opportunities within Nepal. Samjhana Devkota proposed collaboration between federal and local governments to ease communal tensions in Sunsari of Koshi Province and Madhesh Province, emphasizing the importance of job creation for youth. She also called on the government to address the issue of landless people swiftly.

Combating Human Trafficking

Rajendra Laxmi Gaire expressed concerns over new forms of human trafficking and stressed the need for effective strategies to control them. She noted that lack of job opportunities at home compels many citizens, including women, to seek foreign employment, making them vulnerable to trafficking. Gaire urged the government to take special measures to address this situation.

Social Harmony and Public Trust

Lawmakers emphasized the importance of working in deference to people's trust and aspirations. They stressed that since citizens look to the government for solutions, officials should work accordingly. Kiran Babu Shrestha of the Nepali Congress highlighted the need for dialogue, reconciliation, and coordination to achieve peace and prosperity.

Economic and Social Issues

The session also addressed various contemporary pressing issues such as price rise of daily commodities, shortage of cooking gas, ongoing discrimination against Dalits, border issues, and public health concerns. Krishna Bahadur Rokaya pointed out that citizens have been hit by market inflation, while Bishnu Kumari Sapkota urged the government to promptly undertake measures to control the price hike.
