Kathmandu— The Supreme Court in Kathmandu has struggled to meet its case settlement targets for the fiscal year 2082-83 BS (2025-26) due to a September 9 arson attack during the Gen Z movement, which disrupted judicial proceedings and damaged the court's archiving system. As a result of the fire, over 27,467 cases were left unresolved, with only 11,469 out of an initial target of 19,679 cases being settled.
Impact on Case Settlement
The Supreme Court faced significant challenges in meeting its case settlement targets due to the arson attack. According to court spokesperson Arjun Prasad Koirala, the fire caused extensive damage to the archiving system and disrupted regular judicial proceedings, making it difficult to locate case files and delaying the operation of court benches within the deadline.
