Kathmandu— An Air India flight from Phuket, Thailand, to New Delhi experienced severe turbulence on Tuesday, causing a brief change in altitude and leaving several passengers and crew with minor injuries. Ambulances were stationed at the airport as precautionary measures were taken to ensure all affected individuals received medical attention.
Turbulence Incident Details
The incident occurred on flight AI2379, which was en route from Phuket to New Delhi. According to an Air India spokesperson, the aircraft encountered a 'brief in-flight turbulence-related event' during cruise, resulting in a momentary change in altitude. The airline confirmed that all passengers and crew disembarked safely upon landing at Delhi airport.
Medical Assistance Provided
Several passengers were seen being assisted out of the terminal gate on wheelchairs with bandages visible on their heads. An Air India spokesperson stated, 'A small number of passengers and crew members with minor injuries requiring medical assessment have been taken to a medical facility at the airport for precautionary examination and care.'
Speaking to ANI after landing, one passenger described the turbulence as sudden and severe, noting that it occurred while many were sleeping. The passenger reported around 15 to 20 individuals sustaining injuries during the incident.
