China Strongly Condemns Japan’s New Defense White Paper

Kathmandu— On Wednesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian condemned the newly released 'Defense of Japan 2026' white paper, stating that it unjustly targets China and interferes in its internal affairs. The Japanese document identifies China as its greatest strategic challenge and calls for increased defense spending.

China's Response to Japan's Defense Claims

Lin Jian emphasized that China is committed to peaceful development and a defensive national defense policy, asserting that military activities conducted by the country are justifiable. He reiterated that Taiwan is an inalienable part of Chinese territory and stressed that resolving the issue is solely within China’s jurisdiction.

Furthermore, Lin Jian highlighted Japan's historical militarism and its current remilitarization efforts, which he argued pose a serious threat to regional peace and stability. He pointed out that the latest white paper continues to advocate for long-range offensive capabilities and new warfare methods.

Historical Context and Current Concerns

Lin Jian also addressed Japan's historical responsibility, noting that Japanese militarists once inflicted immense suffering on Asia and the world. He criticized Japan’s failure to reflect on its past actions and its ongoing efforts to remilitarize in violation of both international law and its own constitution.

The spokesperson urged Japan to deeply repent for its historical crimes, learn from history, and cease justifying its military buildup.
