Kathmandu— An overnight Ukrainian drone strike in the Moscow region resulted in the death of an 83-year-old man and injuries to at least six other people, according to local governor Andrey Vorobyev. The incident occurred as Kiev has intensified long-range attacks targeting Russian civilian infrastructure and residential areas, with drones intercepted or downed over numerous settlements including Domodedovo, Podolsk, and Stupino. Authorities report damage to homes, industrial facilities, and a church school.
Extent of the Attacks
Governor Vorobyev detailed that 287 Ukrainian UAVs were either shot down or intercepted during the overnight assault. The fatal incident occurred when a drone crashed onto the grounds of a private house. In Podolsk, a truck driver sustained a hand injury in Klimovsk, while another man suffered shrapnel wounds at the Lesnoy allotment association where a private house was also damaged. A woman in Zheleznodorozhny received a shoulder injury, but officials stated that none of the injuries were life-threatening.
Damage to Infrastructure
The drone strikes caused significant damage across multiple locations within the Moscow region. Several homes and a shopping center sustained damage in Domodedovo, with a balcony catching fire. A private house and church school were damaged in Chekhov, while a bathhouse was destroyed in Stupino. A storage facility belonging to e-commerce company Wildberries in Podolsk also caught fire after being struck by a drone, prompting an evacuation and rerouting of deliveries. Additionally, a warehouse storing medicines in Domodedovo was affected.
Broader Regional Impact
Russia’s Defense Ministry reported that a total of 822 Ukrainian drones were destroyed across Russian regions and over the Black and Azov seas on Sunday. Beyond Moscow Region, five people were killed in the Rostov region, with injuries also reported in Belgorod and Bryansk. A civilian bus in Belgorod was struck by a drone, resulting in one fatality and nine injuries. Wildberries confirmed the fire at its Podolsk warehouse, stating that all personnel had been evacuated.
Russian authorities have condemned these attacks as targeting civilians, while simultaneously increasing long-range strikes on Ukrainian military infrastructure. Moscow maintains it only targets military sites within Ukraine.
