Kathmandu— Jared Kushner, US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, is scheduled to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday to promote a 15-point Gaza plan that Israel has already rejected. The meeting follows a rare visit by Kushner to El-Alamein, Egypt, where he convened with mediators from Qatar, Turkey, and Egypt, accompanied by Board of Peace Director-General Nickolay Mladenov and former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, as well as a meeting with Hamas leaders aimed at translating a roadmap for the region into actionable steps.
Diplomatic Push Follows Hamas Talks
Kushner’s visit to Egypt included a rare meeting with members of Hamas’ political leadership. An official familiar with the matter stated that the purpose of this meeting was “translating the roadmap’s obligations into concrete, verifiable steps.” This diplomatic effort comes after President Trump announced in late July an agreement had been reached for the disarmament of Hamas, which he credited to the US-led Board of Peace.
Gaza Plan Details and Israeli Opposition
The proposed Gaza plan includes a provision for the gradual disarmament of Hamas and the transfer of governance of the Gaza Strip to an international force. In exchange, Israel would withdraw its forces from Gaza. However, Prime Minister Netanyahu, who is currently seeking re-election in October, has publicly rejected the plan. Hamas has indicated acceptance of the plan but stated that implementation hinges on Israel fulfilling its own commitments, including a withdrawal of forces and cessation of attacks.
Board of Peace Initiative
The Board of Peace, inaugurated in February 2026 with approximately 40 participating countries – including Israel and several Arab states, though notably excluding Palestinian representatives – was established under a broader Gaza “ceasefire” reached between Israel and Hamas in late 2025. Donald Trump holds the position of chair for life within the Board of Peace. Despite the ceasefire, at least 1,260 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza by Israel since it took effect.
Board of Peace officials confirmed last week that Kushner would lead a delegation to attempt to break the diplomatic deadlock between Israel and Hamas.
