Kathmandu— Heavy rainfall is expected in several provinces across Nepal today, particularly in the hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim. Moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is also likely in parts of the Tarai belt within Lumbini and Sudurpaschim Provinces, as well as Madhes Province, while some areas of Madhes and Koshi’s Tarai region may experience storms.
Current Weather Conditions
The monsoon wind is currently active throughout Nepal. The low-pressure belt associated with the monsoon remains near its average range for this time of year. Skies are generally cloudy across the country, and light to moderate rainfall has already begun in several provinces including Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim.
Regional Forecasts
The Meteorological Forecasting Division anticipates heavy rainfall specifically in hilly areas of the aforementioned five provinces: Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim. In addition to these regions, moderate rainfall with potential thunderstorms is expected across the Tarai belt of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim Provinces, as well as within Madhes Province. Storms are specifically forecasted for some locations in Madhes Province and the Tarai region of Koshi Province.
Generally cloudy weather conditions are predicted to persist throughout the day.
