Kathmandu— Mohamed Salah scored two goals to secure a 2-1 win for Trabzonspor against Istanbul Basaksehir on Sunday, marking his first league start since joining the Turkish Super Lig club earlier this month. The former Liverpool player also had two additional goals disallowed during a standout performance that helped clinch Trabzonspor’s first victory of the season. Salah joined Trabzonspor as a free transfer after nine years with Liverpool and made an immediate impact despite limited playing time thus far.

Salah's Impactful Debut

Mohamed Salah opened his account for Trabzonspor in the eighth minute, capitalizing on a mistake by Basaksehir goalkeeper Muhammed Sengezer. After Sengezer failed to secure possession of the ball, Salah was able to put his side ahead early in the match.

Basaksehir quickly responded with Eldor Shomurodov converting a penalty kick in the 19th minute to equalize. However, Salah restored Trabzonspor’s lead just three minutes into the second half, demonstrating skillful play by exchanging passes with Ernest Muci before slotting the ball past the goalkeeper.

Disallowed Goals and Stoppage Time Drama

Despite his two successful goals, Salah also saw two efforts ruled out. A stoppage-time goal was disallowed due to a foul committed during the build-up play.

Adding to the drama, another of Salah’s goals was called back for offside when he found the empty net from distance with Basaksehir's goalkeeper having moved upfield for a corner.

Following this victory, Trabzonspor will now focus on their Europa League playoff second leg match against Ferencvaros on Thursday, after suffering a 1-0 defeat in the first leg at home.
